We’ve been horrible! We never call, we never write…but our excuse is a good one! We spent our Summer enjoying the theatrical fruits of others’ labors. Some wonderful, joyful work was done in the North Country in this difficult still covid-laden time. Our Rats’ hats are doffed to Pendragon Theatre, The Depot Theatre, and the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts to name a few; we hope you attended their wonderful performances, too!
Now, with cool weather arriving we are making Fall & Winter, and even Spring (!) plans for staged readings to keep us creatively warm, happy, and challenged. Among the fine scripts we’re considering are Radiant Vermin (so fitting for Rats!), Fire Flies, Another Medea, and Building the Wall. In the running for full productions are The Roommate which we read in long ago pre-covid days at BluSeed Studios and The Velocity of Autumn read last season at Pendragon Theatre.
As a sidebar we’re waiting for a date to be set to present another staged reading of Safe Harbor to benefit Historic Saranac Lake. Safe Harbor, a play written (largely in response to AIDS) illuminating the isolation and challenges of people “curing” of tuberculosis here in Saranac Lake was first produced by Pendragon in 1991. This is the second time we’re dusting it off for HSL; the first time we performed it on the porch of a cure cottage with a small masked audience on the lawn. The relevance of the play and our covid circumstances weren’t lost on any of us.
Anyway, please stay tuned for news and updates! And if you aren’t on our mailing list, but would like to join those seeking some good, small batch theatre please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Now get out your boots, snow shovels, and woolen undergarments! HAPPY FALL, Y’ALL! xo, Beth & Karen
